Gion Festival in Kyoto is one of the three major festivals in Japan
The Gion Festival is held by Yasaka-jinja Shrine.This is one of the three major Festivals in Japan, and has been held every year since 869. The aim of this is getting rid of bad luck through pulling "Yamahoko", which are sort of floats, around the town.
The festival is for 1 month in July, the highlights of the Gion Festival are YAMAHOKO JUNKO(float proseccion) at 17th and 24th July and YOIYAMA(the eve of festival) at 14-16th and 21-23th July.
SAKIMATSURI(The First Festival)
●float-building YAMAHOKO 10th-14th July
23 floats are built aroud SHIJO-KARASUMA.
It takes 15 minutes on foot from Guesthouse YULULU to YAMAHOKO Area.
●YOIYAMA 14th-16th July
As many as 400 thousands people visit to see Yoiyama every year, which is the biggest highlight of the Gion Festival.
●YAMAHOKO JUNKO(Former parade) 17th JULY
SHIJO-KARASUMA(9:00) → SHIJO-KAWARAMACHI（9:35） → KAWARAMACHI-OIKE (10:20) → SHINMACHI-OIKE(11:20)
ATOMATSURI(The Later Festival)
●float-building YAMAHOKO 18th-21th July
10 floats are built aroud SANJO-KARASUMA.
It takes 5 minutes on foot from Guesthouse YULULU to YAMAHOKO Area.
●YOIYAMA 21th-23th July
The YOIYAMA of ATOMATSURI is smaller than SAKIMATSURI's.
●YAMAHOKO JUNKO(Latter parade) and HANAGASA JUNKO 24th JULY
YAMAHOKO JUNKO・・・KARASUMA-OIKE (9:30) → KAWARAMACHI-OIKE(10:00) → SHIJO-KAWARAMACHI(10:40) → SHIJO-KARASUMA(11:20)
HANAGASA JUNKO・・・YASAKA Shire(10:00) → SHIJO-TERAMACHI → TERAMACI-OIKE(10:50) → KAWARAMACHI-OIKE → SHIJO-KAWARAMACHI → YASAKA Shrine(12:00)
